Key Experiences
Care
- All sixth formers have a personal tutor who they see every day and is their first port of call for support with any aspect of sixth form life.
- A dedicated sixth form team is always available in West Bank, to provide further, bespoke support.
Community
- Sixth form students are invited to become part of the whole school Well-Being Ambassadors Team, who receive mental health first aid training and lead well-being activities to support each other and the wider school community.
- Sixth formers are actively encouraged to lead enrichment activities for other students, including sport, debate, drama and many more.
- Sixth formers have a bespoke Gatherings program, and we draw upon our rich alumni to visit SGHS and talk about their experiences in the wider world to support our students.
Curriculum
- All students have access to the Unifrog platform, a dedicated online platform that provides a wide range of careers advice and guidance. Unifrog allows our Sixth Form students to:
- Explore career pathways through personality quizzes, career and subject profiles, online courses and webinars
- Explore opportunities available to them by using intuitive search tools that show live vacancies, courses and placements for apprenticeships, universities and virtual work experience
- Enhance and deepen their learning experience via the many University MOOCs & webinars available for students to complete
- Support the creation of high quality applications for university, apprenticeships and future employment
- ‘X’tra: an elective program which provides four discrete pathways for students to develop skills connected to their wider aspirations:
- Academic Courses: EPQ, TEFL
- Community: Volunteering, Literacy Leaders, Numeracy Leaders, Language Leaders
- Skills: Life Guard Training, Duke of Edinburgh, Young Enterprise
- Work Experience: Connected to career aspirations.
- UCAS support: we provide a full programme of support with University applications that involves 1:1 support from teachers, as well as support from a range of universities and our highly experienced and knowledgeable sixth form team.
- We provide bespoke training for those applying for medicine, veterinary science and dentistry, from the written application, to test preparation and interview practice.
- We work closely with Brasenose College Oxford to support students throughout SGHS in their aspiration and application for Oxbridge.
Cultivation
- Experience the wider world: Sixth form students will have a range of opportunities to travel and experience different ways of living and working as part of their sixth form offer. Previous highlights have included trips to Rome, Madrid, London, Manchester and Oxford, with many more opportunities available.
